excerpt:

What are you doing there Little Red Ball?

Are you a ball to play with?

Are you an apple hanging from an apple tree?

Where Are You Little Red Ball? is a simple, yet charming, board book that follows the adventures of what initially appears to be a red object in the shape of a ball. As the reader progresses through the book, the ball changes shape ever so slightly until it takes the form of an apple, a Christmas bauble, the top of a singer’s microphone, and other objects, ending with the form of a clown’s nose.

The elegant and colourful illustrations successfully enhance the text, with subtle and rich use of colour that highlights the placement of the red ball on the page. Therefore, children will very easily be able to follow the evolution of the ball. The text will be appealing to infants and small children, and the style of posing questions would lend the book’s suitability to storytime sessions. The inclusion of Canadian content, e.g. “tuque,” is noted and appreciated.

Highly recommended for all children’s collections.

Highly Recommended.
